Review: Fashion Week in Milan, Italy
Milan Fashion Week recently ended with a clear message, if it’s sporty – it’s in. From sophisticated separates at Prada to fluttering Bohemian looks at Roberto Cavalli, it was a week packed with exciting “looks.” Versace’s show had everyone talking, as Donatella Versace continued to explore a sports theme. “Sportswear is the future of fashion,” she said, adding, “To make it unique and luxurious is the challenge I took this season.”
Lorenzo Serafini’s explored decades gone by with styles reminiscent of the 50s and 60s, something of a signature since he arrived at the house two years ago via Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli. A favorite among the fashion set, Marco Zanini, the former creative director at Rochas and Schiaparelli, presented a small collection for the Italian shoe wear brand Santoni. Refined and elegant, the clothing, shoes and accessories have a polished look that is both timeless and classic.
There was also an exciting new crop of independent female designers in Milan. Attico, Sara Battaglia and F.R.S (For Restless Sleepers) are each fairly new to the city’s show calendar, but they are already paving the way for a new Italian aesthetic. Each brand showed their collections in small presentations rather than big runway shows and each designer makes clothes for women that provide an extension of their personal styles.
It’s exciting to see women who are really shaking up Italian fashion.
