Alexandre Herchcovitch is a Brazil-based fashion designer who is known for his avant garde designs that tend to emphasize the feminine elements of dress: skirts, sleeves, collars, and bodices. This spring, Herchcovitch combines solids with florals in unique shaped panels with lots of frills in unexpected places. The colors he uses for this season include lots of eggshell white, pale pink, and florals with few dark colors. Below are my five picks from his spring ready to wear collection:
The first dress(1) from Alexandre is a soft pink with seams that decorate the front with an extra wide skirt that falls into multiple folds that create their own layers. The collar is also high and in a contrasting collar, eggshell. The dress has long sleeves and a defined waistline. The hem on the skirt reminds me of those frilly tulips that come out at this time of the year. Wear this dress to a garden lunch or tea party this year.
The pantsuit(2) seen here has an eggshell satin blouse with light beige pants. The pants have pockets on the front of the thigh, a style that is not usually combined with a dressy blouse. The blouse has half-length sleeves with a defined waistline and box pleats below the waist. This look is on the casual side but you can add a tan jacket and wear this to an informal lunch.
This pastel print dress(3) has a tiered layered cap sleeve, a tie at the neck, and slightly defined lines at the waist and hips. It’s not quite like a sheath dress with the roomy short skirt but this design is very Herchcovitch with the use of fabric and shapes in this garment. Wear opaque stockings in pale blue, pink, or bege, the colors in the dress. Wear the dress to a nightclub this spring.
Here is a two-piece ensemble(4) with some really frilly, oversized sleeves. The oversized blue shorts with the elastic leg holes look like a pair of short bloomers, with the lace decorating the edge of the pockets. The blouse can also be combines with a broom style skirt if you happen to own one. Wear this to an informal party this spring.
The last dress(5) on the list is a pretty soft floral in the colors of a spring meadow: pink, yellow, gray, and blue with forest green. There are more frills on the cap sleeves but nothing is overdone here. The hem of the skirt has external stitching which adds decoration to the dress. Wear this pretty dress to a semi-formal lunch or dinner party this spring.
Alexandre Herchcovitch(6) fashions can be purchased through Castor and Pollux, and Opening Ceremony in New York City, and Oak in Brooklyn, New York. The average price range for his fashions is between $150.00 and $500.00.
