The Little Black Dress is one of those classical garments which shouldn’t miss from any woman’s wardrobe. I have one myself, which I bought 4 years ago. I wore it three times by now — once at a wedding, another time at a Valentine’s party, and last time at a baptism party. I love my little black dress, and even if I have it for a long time, I’m going to keep it from now on as well, and I’m going to wear it for other occasions to come.
But I noticed during the past few years that the concept of the little black dress has extended. The LBD is not just black anymore, it’s also the little red dress, the little white dress, the little blue dress, so now it’s better to call it simply the little dress. Fashion is in constant evolution, so I gather it shouldn’t be surprising that the little black dress evolved in other colors as well, and her colored sisters can be just as elegant, fashionable, easy to style up and ready to wear.
I actually like the idea of little dresses in other colors besides black. Why not? I find it really innovative. Red, white and blue are classical colors which will never go out of style, just like black, which makes them perfect colors for little dresses, like Coco Chanel once thought the little black dress to be. So why should we have only one little dress in our wardrobe, the black one, when in fact we could do with four of them, in different colors?
I got a red dress for my last birthday from a friend of mine, and now that I think of it, I actually realize it’s a little red dress, and I’m going to wear it when the right occasion comes. Now, thanks to my friend, I have two little dresses in my wardrobe – the black one and the red one.
I love white for summer, and a little white dress is a must have in a summer wardrobe, and wearing a white dress with tanned skin is, well, fabulous. As it happens, I don’t have a little white dress in my wardrobe, but it can be taken care of.
And last but not least, the little blue dress. I used to have a blue dress some time ago, which I might as well say was a little blue dress, and I used to wear it to different day and evening occasions, styling it up or down depending on the occasion. So now I need a new little blue dress, and next time when I go shopping, I will look for one.
I remember the Sex and the City foursome wearing little black dresses in promotional images and videos and Desperate Housewives wearing little red, white and blue dresses, which only proves my point – if fashion evolves, so does the little dress.
